ADMISSION AND RETENTION POLICIES FOR FRESHMEN APPLICANTS AND TRANSFEREES IN THE BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (BSEd) AND BACHELOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (BEEd)

EFFECTIVE 1st SEMESTER A.Y 2024-2025

The Norzagaray College upholds its commitment to pursue academic excellence as an institution of higher learning. Henceforth, the College of Education is determined to uplift its standard that includes admission of student applicants and retention in the BSEd and BEEd programs. Moreover, the institution is offering board academic programs and students are also expected to maintain an outstanding academic reputation and utmost performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).

With the commitment of the college to attain its vision of producing highly and competitive educators, the College of Education ought to modify the existing Admission and Retention Policies used by the college as stipulated in the Student Handbook (pages 8-10) to wit:

For Freshmen:

Whereas, at present, admission policy requires General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% for student applicants in Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and 87% in Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd).

Whereas, in the College of Education Faculty Meeting convened on September 21, 2023, October, 09, 2023 and January 26, 2024 by the Dean of the College of Education and attended by part- time and full- time faculty, unanimously recommended that the minimum GWA requirement for Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) beginning 1st Semester of A.Y 2024-2025 will increase its standard from EIGHTY- FIVE (85%) to EIGHTY- EIGHT PERCENT (88%).

Whereas, the BSEd and BEEd shall have a GWA requirement of EIGHTY- EIGHT PERCENT (88%) since both are BOARD programs.

Whereas, changes in the GWA requirement will maintain or increase not the quantity but the quality of the students admitted in the programs based on their previous academic performance.

Whereas, student applicants with the General Weighted Average (GWA) of below eighty- eight percent (88%) are advised to enroll in other existing academic programs of Norzagaray College, namely; Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM). If the students wished to enroll in the College of Education after one semester, they shall obtain a GWA of eighty- eight percent (88%) and above and no grade lower than 2.0 (or its equivalent) in any of the subjects.

Whereas, student applicants shall undergo the oral interview conducted by the Dean or his/her representative.

Whereas, student applicants enrolled in the College of Education should strive to speak English and Filipino to achieve language proficiency as best expected of teachers.

Whereas, student applicants shall comply the general admission requirements prior to enrolment.

For Transferees and Shiftees

Whereas, student applicant shall present a Certified True Copy of their credentials with a GWA of 88% or its equivalent and above and no failing grades in all subjects from the previous school/s attended in all semesters, otherwise, he/she will be advised to enrol in other academic programs offered in NC.

Whereas, transferees shall pass the qualifying examination given by Guidance and Counselling Center (GCC) prior to admission.

Whereas, student applicant shall undergo the oral interview conducted by the Dean or his/her representative.

Whereas, student applicant should strive to speak English and Filipino to achieve language proficiency as best expected of teachers.

Retention Policies

Whereas, students shall maintain passing grades in all subjects enrolled with no grade lower than 2.25 and a GWA of 88% (2.0) and above in order to continue his/her studies for the next term. The student who did not obtain the required grade during the first semester is given one semester to improve his/her grades.

Whereas, students who obtained a GWA of below 88% shall be placed on WARNING STATUS and shall be guided by the following standards:

Whereas, any student who at two (2) consecutive semesters fails to obtain a GWA of 88% shall be placed on Probation Status.

Whereas, any student who dropped or obtained failing grades in any prerequisite subject shall not be allowed to enroll the subject requiring such.

Whereas, students should be well-mannered and maintain positive attitudes toward their studies.

Whereas, students who are eliminated from the program will not be readmitted to the department.

Whereas, any student who incurred failing grades due to prolonged illness or medical treatment or other reasonable absences shall be given consideration upon the approval of the Dean of the Program. Reconsideration is granted to a student TWICE only.
