ABSTRACT

Positive peer pressure within one's social circle could significantly influence a student's academic performance. This study aimed to comprehensively analyze and describe the relationship of positive peer pressure and the academic performance in the National Service Training Program (NSTP) 1 of 1st year BEED students. The study used a descriptive-correlational research method with a total of 40 respondents using a simple random sampling method. The instruments used in this study were a survey questionnaire and an assessment made by the researchers to evaluate the students' perceptions of the impact of positive peer pressure in terms of class participation, social behavior, and attitude. The results of the study showed that the level of the impact of positive peer pressure in terms of class participation was 3.40, which is interpreted as "moderate positive impact", social behavior and attitude were 3.44 and 3.43, respectively, which were interpreted as "high positive impact." The study also found that there was no significant relationship between the impact of positive peer pressure and the academic performance of the 1st year BEED students in NSTP 1. Thus, the findings of this study suggested that positive peer pressure does not make a big difference in students' academic performance. It was important for students to carefully select their peers which can influence their academic performance. Teachers and parents should serve as supporters for students to help them boost their confidence. Thus, this research informed teachers and administrators on the development of an effective peer mentoring program for improving students’ academic performance.
